True Confessions

I started reading about personal blogs some time ago and I noted that the very first blogger of any importance focused his blog on revealing every conceivable detail of his personal life and that blog skyrocketed in popularity.

I thought to myself, “You mean to tell me that complete strangers might be interested in reading the everyday mundane details of my own personal life? I find that concept to be rather strange.” For Ten or more years I had been focusing my own blogs on politics and political commentary. I have to admit that I must not have been very good at it because none of my blogs ever went through the roof in readership.

So, to make a long story short, just about a week or so ago now, I started experimenting with writing blog posts about my own life’s little adventures and … much to my joy and total surprise, many more readers began appearing on my blog than ever before. “I must have stumbled onto something good here,” I mused, “This isn’t supposed to happen. All the experts advised me to concentrate on creating a “Niche” for my blog and stick to it because (They said) nobody will read a blog that talks about too many difference kinds of things …. because they get confused and bored easily.”

I hate to bust the bubble of the experts, folks, but so far, my stories about my personal life have gained a new and larger audience for my blog than ever before and I am almost spilling my sperm in happiness because of it.

I know that I am a “Colorful” character and that is an understatement. I am not only a colorful character; I am insanely eccentric and maybe that is what is appealing to all the new folks coming here to read. Whatever it is, I am damned grateful for it! Blogging has now become new and exciting to me and I hope to inform, entertain, amuse and perhaps even teach some people a few things … who knows …maybe I can make a few more friends this way …. I already have several wonderful friends on this vast internet and they know who they are ….. and I love them all dearly …. I just don’t know what to say right now because I am overwhelmed.

So, in the future, look for more crazy political stuff from me but also expect some new and creative things as well ….For an example of a minute detail from my life: “I don’t have a clue as to whether or not anybody would be interested at all in learning that the last communication I ever had with my dear little old Border Colly dog, “Cola,” was me standing in the darkened stairwell leading to the basement of our house, softly calling her name and hearing the weak “Tap, Tap, Thump, Thump” or her failing legs and happiness-filled tail. I spent some time with her. She was so old, so weak, so sick. It was heartbreaking. But her love for me had never failed even though I had been in the military and we had been separated for years.”

I do know that from this point forward, you will be hearing a lot more person stuff — maybe some of the personal stuff is stuff that you and I have shared … that you and I have shared even though you and I may have never met in person …who knows?

I think it is worth a try.

  1. I can sense the sadness you felt about the old dog, John. Sometimes, personal stuff strikes a chord with readers. Nostalgia certainly has its fans on my blog.
    Best wishes, Pete.
