Exo 2

Got up this morning … and at my age I consider getting up in the morning to be a welcome miracle.  Got up remembering that I watched the last episode of a NetFlix offering called “Empress” and was disappointed that the series ended abruptly in the midst of one of the most exciting scenes.  Netflix and I might part company one of these days.

Was thinking, this morning, about Ukraine and Russia and wondering how it all will end.  I am thinking that Rootin Tootin might be feeling a little cornered at this point and may soon try to use some small victory on the battlefield as an excuse to sue for peace.  No matter what he does, it is my sincere hope that the rest of the world will not forget what he has done already and will continue to isolate his ass until the day he retires, goes to prison, or dies.

It looks like the American Latino Community might be leaning more and more to the political right as the mid-term elections approach.  If that is the case, then the Latino Community just may vote to change the country they thought was such a nice place to come and make a home in to something that hates them enough to go completely anti-immigrant on them all.  In my gut, I know they are smarter than that.  I hope they are smarter than that.  For all our sakes, I hope they are smarter than that.

I guess I should be less worried about America’s fast-rising neo-fascist tide and the crisis in our democratic form of government, but like I have said before, I am more or less a nobody, and I, personally, can’t do a damned thing to change the course of the nation so I will just have to hunker down and ride the flow of whatever comes hoping I can survive it all intact. If I can manage to paste strong enough protective barriers over my anal regions, I might have a chance.  That is also the same thing I say every time I walk through the door of a grocery store these days too …”Attention shoppers, there is a fantastic screwing in aisle No. 9 — bend over!”

I am tired of paying exorbitant prices at grocery stores for lettuce heads in pretty plastic-wrap packages that have horrendous-looking dark brown stuff sliding around the edges of leaves once you cut the lettuce head open.  I am tired of finding greenish spots of mold on meats in display cases and pears that remain as hard as rocks once you purchase them and until the day they rot.

But what is a person to do?  The consumer is never going to get a break until the consumer gets enough sense in his or her head to organize other consumers and to go on strike against certain foods, certain brands and certain stores until the management of those places understands that the public is getting tired of being shit on by their greedy ways of doing business.

Is Our Supreme Court Legitimate Anymore?

There are questions about the legitimacy of the contemporary United States Supreme Court because of its growing partisan nature.  Some of the latest decisions by The Supreme Court have rocked the nation to the core … specifically the overturning of Rowe vs Wade.

It seems to me like the Supreme Court has been moving more dangerously toward the American radical right point of view in its decisions for some time now and I personally believe that is because the Court has now been packed by the Trump administration with some justices who might be very enthusiastic about seeing Trumpist viewpoints dominate the opinions rendered throughout the entire American judicial system.

It seems to me that the Supreme Court is now more likely than ever to rule on things exactly the way the Republicans want them to — am I dreaming here or is there something I have missed?

If I am not wrong, Impartiality is supposed to be the guiding virtue of our Supreme Court .. not blatant partisanship!

So is there a solution for this problem?  I believe there is.

I believe the solution to the problem is for the Supreme Court to be required to have an equal number of justices from both sides of the political aisle.  It could begin by reorganizing the Court so that it has 5 democrats and 5 republicans on the bench.

I believe that having an equal number of justices on the Supreme Court from both sides of the aisle would solve the problem of growing hyper-partisanship on that august body once and for all.

I like the idea that our American democratic way of life is often explained as “The Great Experiment.” “Experiments” are trial and error mechanisms that scientists and others use to arrive at something that is practical and workable and in the realm of experimentation there are many successes and failures until a usable and more or less permanent result is obtained.

With all The United States’ often rocky ups and downs across the centuries, I guess the “Great Experiment” is still working for most of us even though I fear that it is now being questioned and even threatened by a huge radical faction rising from the cesspools of modern idealism stolen from something that once called itself “Conservatism.” There is a noticeable shift going on now ,,, ever since the advance of a darkness sometimes called “Trumpism” toward ever-increasingly-radical right-wing-ism in The United States … even, if you analyze what is happening, a shift away from democracy to a form of fascism.  It is not only an American trend, it is happening across the globe.

There are idiots — misinformed idiots — on the American Political Right who are convinced that The United States is a Christian nation founded on Christian principles even though the facts show us that there is very little mention of God or religion in the writings of the founding fathers and most especially in the founding documents such as the Constitution,

This same bunch of brainwashed airheads also believe that the People of the United States are invoived in an ongoing culture war and some of them are even calling this situation “Another American Civil War.”  With the very obvious love that these pricks have for guns and violence …. yes, they are even saying to the world that violence is now becoming an accepted method by which to make changes in political policy –I know that some of the more radical members of some of their radical militia groups must probably be getting erections over the thought of spilling blood to achieve their wet dream of taking over the government …but so far, level heads have prevailed for the most part.

One of the greatest dangers of the American Conservatives today is their mistaken notion, widely shared am long themselves ..and their followers …that they alone possess the moral high ground in America and that anybody and everybody else are inferior to their agenda and to them, themselves ….that they have the only keys to effective governance …that they are the only ones who can fix everything that they think is wrong in The United States today and that their mission to change the face of our democratic republic is somehow ordained by and approved by God Himself.

We can see evidence of this delusion in something that has recently arisen in the American political arena calling itself, “Christian Nationalism” which, in my view, is nothing but a self-serving bastardization of Christianity meant to be a mechanism to consolidate favor among their acolytes and to advance the illusion that they are going to rise up in some revolutionary way some day and take over the entire government.

First of all, we need to consider something that Adolph Hitler once wrote in his book, “Mein Kampf” —-” Through the clever and constant application of propaganda people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way around, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise.” (Mein Kampf, 1923.)

If you can remember anything about the Trump administration that we endured for 4 long years, before the attempted insurrection on January 6th, you will also remember that that administration and its great leader were really experts in using that same kind of propaganda … but it was edited and revised to fit the situation that we found ourselves in during that administration.

Nevertheless, it was just as effective then in the previous administration as it was back in 1938 and 39 and j just as effective as it still is today as the Republicans seem to have adopted it as their major mass communication modus operandi.

The Republicans’ refined and modernized propaganda machine actually brainwashed more than 70 million Americans into believing that the Trump administration was akin to the Second Coming of Christ.  And a dangerous number of them still believe it.

Trump himself never articulated the belief that he was the King of Israel or the Second Coming of God but it is apparent that millions of Americans must believe that he is because, in my opinion, their fanatic devotion to him does sort of elevate him to the position of deity.

So are the Republicans drifting toward fascism? “While no two fascist movements are entirely alike, during fascism’s heyday in the 1920s and 30s, they shared several common themes. All of those themes are present in today’s Republican Party.” That was a quote from “Alternet.”  Read more about this on ALTERNET.

You have probably heard about the “Dark Money” that gets poured into America’s elections but have you ever wondered where all that dark money comes from?

Just because dark money donors are not required to identify themselves it does not mean that they are unknown,

If you are at all interested in where dark money comes for American elections you can find out a lot about it  here … Learn where that dark money comes from.

Now you know where some of it comes from.

So is it time to kill the dark money monster in American politics or not? I believe Chuq thinks it is!

What do YOU think?

The people in Washington who run our foreign policy seem to me to be a party obsessed more with wars than with protecting our citizens and I suspect that it might have something to do with insuring continuing profits for the Industrial/Military Complex that President Eisenhower tried to warn us about.

Given the proclivity of modern American foreign policy strategists, it would seem to me that The U.S., government which always seems to be “Protecting” democracies in some far-off corner of the world is not advocating very well for policies that would secure our own citizens here on American soil.  I mean I think we have been doing some things lately that look to me like some kind of foreign roulette games that could get us involved in disastrous conflict … things like continuing to push the boundaries with Russia by supplying Ukraine with bigger and better battlefield weapons on a continuing basis.  I see threats to our own national security in those kinds of actions.

I see threats to our national economic welfare in such actions as these.  I see a possibility of seeing our economy bankrupted by endless foreign spending.  I hope our national return on investment in foreign entanglements is massive enough to keep us afloat for the long term … but I do worry about it.

I hear that America now has a national debt somewhere in the close neighborhood of 30-Trillion dollars … and climbing.  That, my friends, is not chump change! That is a challenging amount of debt even in the best of times.  But the powers that be do not seem to be concerned, so why should I?

Our foreign policy priorities are in drastic need of change.

Congress keeps talking about ways and means to reduce the national debt but so far it appears that none of all that talk has produced anything promising.  Congress does love to talk, don’t they?

Will the USA ever pay off the national debt?  It depends on a number of things.

Right now, I believe that the government is spending more than it takes in. I see evidence that we are borrowing heavily from overseas governments to meet operating expenses and to fund our overseas wars and involvement in wars. I believe our national budget is probably negative right now in all aspects and on all fronts.

So how do we fix it?

The Republicans have an answer.  They believe they can fix it by giving rich people astronomical tax breaks and by making everybody else pay for those tax breaks.

That is why we need a government willing to share the wealth and that works to close the ever-widening gap between the rich and the lower classes.

That would be democrats at this juncture.

I see that The United States is involved in a war between Ukraine and Russia and that we are sending seemingly endless amounts of military equipment and money to help Ukraine in their efforts to protect themselves.

For those who argue that we are not involved, let me give an illustration to explain why we are involved.

Suppose there was some kid who was getting his ass kicked by a big bully and the kid had little or nothing to defend himself with.

Suppose that a good samaritan came along and gave the kid a big club with which to defend himself and he went ahead and beat the bully up.

While the bully had the big mouth and the big fists and had nothing in his way to continue beating the little kid, the bully thought that everything was going well.

But when the samaritan came along and gave the poor little kid the big stick, the bully started complaining that the samaritan was involved and was responsible for the black eye that the little kid gave him with the big stick the samaritan had supplied.

The question is moot as to whether the samaritan was involved in the conflict between the kid and the bully.  There is no doubt in my mind that the samaritan was heavily involved in bringing about the defeat of the bully and was, in fact, fighting alongside the kid by reason of his contributions to the fray.

So we can paint the picture any way we want to paint it, the fact is … as I see it, that we are, indeed, actively engaged in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia by our continued sending all the money and the weapons to Ukraine to be used in their struggle against the invading bully.

I keep hearing information suggesting that we plan to keep supplying all that help to Ukraine, but I have yet to hear when and how we might stop doing all that and try to get things here at home back to some form of normal.

We seem to have plans to stay in this fray for as long as it takes but I have yet to hear about some kind of plan for us to withdraw from it all eventually.  It doesn’t make sense to me to have a plan for participation without some kind of withdrawal strategy.

I contend that we need an exit strategy and owing to the increasing danger of being involved, we need it fast!

Our government here in America is supposed to be in the business of protecting us and our fellow citizens .. not getting us into situations that might end up with calamitous consequences.

Given the revealed nature of the aggressor in the Ukraine/Russian situation, I do not think there will ever be any viable military solution to the problem and that somewhere along the line, negotiations between all the parties are going to be required to prevent something really catastrophic from happening to everybody involved.

How long will it be before both parties to this conflict bankrupt themselves totally and thus endanger the security and safety for all their citizens?  How many must die before the powers that be realize the absolute folly of war itself?  Has History taught no lesson that has been learned?

The insanity on both sides must cease.

The American democracy is dependent upon the voting booth and on the will of the citizens ….that is the case in theory anyway …but I contend that the citizens in a democracy are more important than either the voting booth or the offices that the voting booths are built to fill. In a democracy or in a democratic republic, the citizens himself and herself supersede in importance all other things up to and including the government itself.  There is even a commitment in the constitution to that very fact … that the will of the people is sacrosanct and that the government is in submission to that will.

There are some forces at play in today’s politics that might challenge what I just said.  There are some people alive today and active in politics who think that they are more important than either the other citizens or the government and in some cases their actions have proven it out. When you hear a high-placed political figure make such statements as “I am the only one who can fix a broken government” then you have a prime example of what I am illustrating here.

Therefore, if we are to have an effective government that is worth the paper it is written on, then the citizens have an absolute obligation to keep themselves well informed, educated, up-to-date and aware of the truth about everything that affects them in their daily lives.

But because of all the hype, the propaganda, the bias in all the popular media and In all the speeches and publications of all the politicians, the would-be politicians, the dissenters, the dissatisfied, and all others with a political agenda or bias, it has become egregiously difficult, in the modern times, when technology rules everything and makes every day a day of informational overload for anyone without a degree in political science to do a good job of keeping themselves up-to-snuff on facts that concern the various shades of their governance.

So the typical voter has turned to so-called “Alternative” sources for their news and information.  They are depending on what their peers and neighbors, friends and associates are telling them. They are blindly voting for their own political parties no matter what … just like their parents always did … often without a hint of truthful information about either candidates or issues.

Today there is a growing mistrust of the way in which various elements concerned with our politics are interpreting the constitution and the laws of the nation … not only mistrust but often misunderstanding … there are people who wish to interpret the constitution in the exact way that the writers wrote it … these are called “Originalists” and there are people who believe that the constitution should “Evolve” to better meet the needs of a changing societal paradigm as time moves forward and there are people who would like to burn the whole governmental structure to the ground and start from scratch with something else entirely.  We are living in perilous times for ourselves and all our citizens.

It would be a good thing if our elected officials actually took the time to read through all the bills that cross their desks before approving them or disproving them and it would be a better thing if, by some miracle, our contemporary elected officials could shy away from their “My Way Or The Highway” methodology in their sham negotiations and discussions about issues before the congress and learn to share gains and losses in the old fashioned way of governing called “Compromise.”

Democracy in America has become a farcical political theater catering to the upper classes and demanding more of the lower class citizens to feed the material lusts of the rich and super-rich and to use fear and distraction as weapons with which to cement the future for an America that will, by no means and in no manner resemble the America we know today.

Everybody seems to be to trying to escape reality in the political world and are drifting into fantastic alternate universes of their own construct.  This is being done by run-away revisionism, disassociation, fabrication and lately insurrection to one degree or another …insurrection in the halls of congress against established norms and insurrection against all that has traditionally been sacred all across the nation.

It is a slow beginning but there is, right at this moment, a revolution taking place.  So far it has been more or less peaceful but it is persistent, it is widespread and it is slowly gaining momentum. It is cultural as well as political and one sweet day we are going to awaken to an America we never dreamed would ever be possible and I do not believe that it is going to be a very good experience for most of us.

The world surely must be laughing at us here in The United States right now because we have a lot of serious problems facing us and all the politicians talk about the problems but little or nothing ever seems to get done about them. There is lots of talk coming out of Washington but little ever happens.

There is talk about the inflation that is strangling the economy, there is talk about the money being sent to bolster the Ukrainians in their war against Russia, there is talk about how weak the Biden administration is, there is talk about how partisan the Supreme Court has become, talk, talk and more talk … but nothing seems to ever get done to solve any of the problems.

People who can’t afford to pay rent or who have to make a decision between buying groceries for a week and paying the rent do not need a lot of long winded politicians in Washington talking about the problems.  People in these circumstances need bipartisan legislation — not talk —  to help them right now, right now with their real day-to-day struggles, not some vague “Pie In The Sky” talk of better things to come somewhere down the road.

Where are all the demonstrations of frustrated voters, lining the streets of our nation, holding their signs and placards and screaming their demands for action through bull horns and loud speakers?  Where are the protesters?  I remember in the days of the Vietnam war there were crowds of protesters on the streets nearly every day calling for an end to the war.  I remember the near riots of concerned citizens on Wall Street during a fiscal crisis.  Where are the activists when we need them? There was more action than talk in those days!

I guess the answer to my last question might be, “Maybe people do not care to go out into a protest and get their skulls crushed by police billy clubs or have their lungs scarred by clouds of tear gas. They would probably prefer to just sit comfortably at home in front of their television sets and talk about what is happening and what needs to happen than to actually get involved.

Sometimes it looks like our government is totally impotent when it comes to serving the needs, the dreams and desires of the voters but it seems to be on libidinal enhancement drugs when it comes to catering to the whims of the wealthy and the super-wealthy. Politicans make promises every day but I say, “Talk is cheap.  Put your money where your mouth is.”

Maybe I am not being fair.  Maybe there is something I have missed or something that I do not know.  But it seems to me that things could be a lot better than they are at this point.  On the other hand, I know that things could also be a lot worse than they are.  At least we aren’t hiding in basements and bunkers yet, but I believe that if we keep on the way we have been going in places like Ukraine, the days of hiding in basements and bunkers can’t be too awfully far away.

I suspect that if those kinds of days ever come upon us, they will come suddenly as a thief in the night and the whole bunch of us will be asking, “How in the hell could this have ever happened in America?

Can we talk about this?

I Am Sick Of Mindless Conservatives

I have been wasting a lot of my time lately engaging in political discourse with a person billing himself as a conservative here on Liming’s Links.  Today I fixed it so that any comment he tries to make on this blog will be sent automatically to the trash.  Why did I do this?  I did this because (A) You can never win an argument with these folks, (B) You can never reason with these folks, (C) Their thinking process is immoveable and locked in on every subject you try to discuss with  them, (D) They are steeped in some of the most atrocious conspiracy theories ever heard of … things that horror movies could be made from …(E) They are arrogant, self-assured, brimming with all kinds of useless bullshit and always seem to have a plan to fix everything that is wrong with America but are never willing to reveal any of the details of those mysterious plans … basically because their “Plans” are nothing but a set of talking points and they have never worked any of the details out.  But they want to bullshit people and make them think they have the plan that will save America.

In reality, all their plans are designed to “Save America” alright — they are designed to save America for the rich and the super-rich … Their plan is to save America to enrich themselves and their cronies at the expense of all the rest of us.

Listen to some of their shit:

The former guy …. Mr. “I have the ability to declassify secret government documents using nothing but the power of my mind” … actually never lost the last election and some guy with a pillow factory has all the evidence needed to prove it and it will all be revealed to the world some sweet day ….probably after the government is finished with all their investigations of the former guy’s business dealings and whether or not he had some part in the insurrection that took place at the U.S. Capital on the famous date of January 6th.

Even though the idea that the former guy did not lose the last election is believed by a really scary amount of people who have been brainwashed by the radical right element of the Republican party … that radical faction that is on the very edge of assuming total control of the Republican party .. the crazies … the dangerous crazies who might someday control every action of our government… It is a frightful but very possible prospect.

These idiots are fully convinced that the coronavirus that has killed more than a million of us never ever existed, that the vaccines produced to keep people out of hospitals and graves from the pandemic will kill you themselves, (Even though millions of us have taken these medicines with no ill effects at all in most cases) — The idiots believe that everybody who ever took the coronavirus vaccines are destined to die because of the vaccine …but so far their prognostications in that department have never materialized … and never will … according to the best scientific minds.

The crazy right-wing believes that Russian, Vlad Putin is the ideal of what political leadership should look like,  they even had Viktor Orban, a dictator, as one of their featured speakers at their big CPAC meeting …applauding him, giving him standing ovations …pissing their pants in euphoric admiration of a handful of dictators in countries where there are no citizen rights hardly at all …That’s what these assholes want to bring to America … and there are more than 70 million of them out there, ready to spring … ready to revolt ….a lot of them advocate using violence to advance their political ambitions …

I am done with them.  I am sorry to admit that some of my relatives are members of this crowd ….and I am having nothing to do with them either.

We are going into some potentially dark waters, my friends.  It is going to take a big move by that God in which we say we trust to get us out of this mess.
